AJC "Dayton Moore is not expected to join the Royals until after next week's draft. Kansas City has the first overall selection. Kansas City assistant GM Muzzy Jackson will reportedly oversee the draft. The Royals asked the Braves for permission to talk to Moore last week although Baird was still in place as Royals general manager. Owner David Glass announced early this month that he was ready for a shakeup of the team with the majors' worst record. Moore, 39, was considered the heir apparent to become Braves general manager when John Schuerholz retires. Schuerholz's contract runs through 2007 and he has not indicated when he wants to step down. The Braves wanted to retain Moore, considered baseball's next bright young GM candidate. But the team is up for sale and Moore had no guarantee about his long-term future. Moore, who grew up in Kansas, was offered a five-year contract by the Royals at about $1 million per season, a person familiar with negotiations said. He will have full authority to revamp the troubled franchise." Bummer.
