Game 1:
Braves 4, Astros 1
Chuck James (11-4, 3.78) outpitched Roger Clemens (who pitched well in his own right), going 7 strong innings and allowing just 1 run on a solo homer. He allowed 4 hits, 2 walks, and struck out 8. The Braves got homers from Chipper and Renteria to lead the offense.
Game 2:
Astros 5, Braves 4
The Astros got 3 unearned runs in the 9th on a couple of errors by the middle infielders and withstood a Braves 9th inning rally to win. Adam LaRoche hit his 32nd homer while Brian McCann had 2 hits to lead the Braves offense.
Game 3:
Braves 3, Astros 1
The Astros offense got shut down and the Braves eliminated them from a playoff spot on the last day of the season. Maybe some revenge from the past 2 years, although it doesn't make me feel much better. John Smoltz (16-9, 3.49) pitched 6 shutout innings and allowed 6 hits, 3 walks, and struck out 5. The Braves only got 3 hits, including Francoeur's 29th homer, but got just enough offense to win.
September recognition and other stuff will come a little later this week.
