Chuck James dominated the Mets, throwing 8 shutout innings allowing 1 hit, and the Braves won the first game of the series.
James (8-3, 3.65) walked 3 and struck out 1. McBride pitched the 9th, striking out all 3 batters.
The Braves offense took advantage of some pretty terrible pitching by Steve Trachsel, who walked 7 batters. They had just one extra base hit, but nickeled and dimed them to death.
Offensive contributors: Edgar Renteria was 2-3 with a double, walked twice, had 2 RBIs, and scored. Pete Orr was 2-4. Adam LaRoche was 1-3 with a walk and 2 RBIs, batting in the 3 spot. Chuck James was 1-2 with a walk and scored twice.
Chipper has an oblique problem again and is going to miss some time.
John Smoltz against Dave Williams tomorrow.
