The Nationals offense got shut down and the Braves won the first game of the series. Kyle Davies (3-5, 7.18) pitched 5 innings and allowed 1 runs on 4 hits, 2 walks, and struck out 5. Villarreal pitched the next 2 innings with no score, McBride pitched a scoreless 8th, and Paronto pitched a scoreless 9th. The Braves broke open a tie game in the top of the 6th when Andruw hit a 2 run homer. Daryle Ward hit a pinch-hit 3 run homer to put the game away in the 8th inning. Offensive contributors: Andruw Jones was 2-3 with his 35th homer, doubled, walked, had 2 RBIs, and scored 3 times. Brian McCann was 1-2 with 2 walks and scored. Daryle Ward hit a 3 run homer in the 8th, his 7th homer. Chuck James will pitch against Beltran Perez in the 2nd game of the series.
