Andruw Jones hit a 3 run homer as the Braves rallied from an early deficit to win.
John Smoltz (14-9, 3.72) had a very fine Coors Field start to get the win. He went 7 innings and allowed 3 runs on 9 hits, 0 walks, and struck out 7.
He struck out his 200th batter, which ties a major league record with Bert Blyleven with the longest stretch between seasons of 200 Ks at 9 years. Smoltz is among the league leaders in Ks and has a chance to win the title (which he won in 1992).
After spotting Colorado an early 3-1 lead, Smoltz kept them there. After the first 2 batters in the 6th reached base, Andruw hit a 3 run homer into the left field seats to give the Braves a 4-3 lead. Willy Aybar hit a 2 run, 2 out single in the 9th for some insurance.
Yates pitched a scoreless 8th and Wickman pitched a scoreless 9th for the save.
Offensive contributors: Andruw Jones was 1-3 with his 37th homer, a sac fly, and had 4 RBIs. Willy Aybar was 2-4 with a double, walked, had 2 RBIs, and scored. Ryan Langerhans was 1-3 with a walk and scored. Marcus Giles walked twice and scored.
TBS said that Smoltz's 8 million 2007 option was picked up.
Tim Hudson goes against Josh Fogg tonight.
