The Braves rallied to win the afternoon game today, and were blown out in the night game.
In the day game, the Phillies took a 3-0 lead into the 7th inning, and Jon Lieber was shutting down the Braves. Villarreal had started for the Braves, going 5 innings and allowing 3 runs on 7 hits, 2 Chase Utley homers, 1 walk, and struck out 3. Devine, McBride, and Yates (2-4, 4.42) had scoreless appearances to hold it there.
Daryle Ward, in his first Braves appearance, hit a 2 run 2 out pinch-single to make it 3-2 in the top of the 7th. In the 9th, Adam LaRoche hit a 2 run homer to make it 4-3 and Wickman pitched the 9th for the save.
In the night game, the Phillies absolutely obliterated the Braves pitching staff, scoring in every inning until the 7th. Kyle Davies (2-4, 7.20) had nothing in his first start back, lasting 2.1 innings and allowing 7 runs on 10 hits, 1 walk, and struck out 3. Ken Ray and Anthony Lerew also had terrible appearances. By the time the game mercifully ended, it was 16-4.
Tim Hudson will pitch against Jamie Moyer in the first game tomorrow. Lance Cormier will start the 2nd game for the Braves.
