In Game 2 of the series, John Smoltz was locked up in a pitching duel with Annibal Sanchez, and outpitched him with a 2-1 win. Smoltz went 8 innings, allowing 1 run on 8 hits, 3 walks, and struck out 8. Wickman pitched the 9th for the save.
In Game 3, Tim Hudson had a nice start, going 7 innings and allowing 1 run on 3 hits, 0 walks, and struck out 5. He left with a 3-1 lead, but the bullpen blew it and the game was tied going into extra innings. Chad Paronto was lit up in the 10th, giving up 4 runs on a 2 run double and a 2 run homer. Kevin Barry got the last out.
But in the bottom of the 10th with the Marlins leading 7-3, the Marlins looked more like a Little League team. After the leadoff batter got out, 2 doubles and a single followed. Each double probably should have been caught. Brayan Pena hit a grounder to 2nd, but the throw to 2nd base was dropped by the shortstop and everyone was safe. Marcus Giles then hit a single to left and Josh Willingham tried to throw the baseball before he had it, and the ball went past him. 2 runs scored and the Braves won.
The Braves will now travel to Washington, and Kyle Davies will pitch against Tony Armas.
