Writes, After Bobby got tossed from Sunday, April 22nd's game against the Mets, what coach decided that Ryan Langerhans, who was 0 for his last 20, should pinch-hit with two on and the game tied in the eighth? This was the Smoltz-Glavine showdown for those of you who don't remember. Bobby was ejected for arguing a pitch he thought Smoltz should have gotten in the 6th. As for what happened, there were two men on against Aaron Heilman in the 8th with a tie game and Ryan Langerhans was brought in to pinch hit for Tyler Yates and he struck out, but one batter later Kelly Johnson hit what would prove to be the game-winning homer. One of two people was behind this move. Since Cox was ejected, Chino Cadahia had taken over the managerial duties, but many times they will have one of the players or coaches running back to the clubhouse and relaying instructions from the manager to the bench coach. I agree, it was a dumb move but certainly a move influenced by the Cox philosophy of match-ups. It seems that even when a guy like Craig Wilson or Langerhans is killing a platoon, he sticks with them because they bat from the other side of the plate as their platoon partene. Thorman had already been used in the game, Woodward is a righty, Bobby seems against using Pete Orr, and you almost never see a backup catcher pinch hitting so that leaves Langerhans.
