Acosta with the Team

on .

Update: Dave O'Brien partially confirmed the report. O'Brien says that Wickman's flight back to Atlanta yesterday was canceled, so the team set up an MRI at a place in Philadelphia. Acosta has joined the team but is not yet active. If the team has to put Wickman on the DL, then Acosta will be activated but we probably won't know until close to game time. I am hearing an unconfirmed report (so take this with a grain of salt) that Manny Acosta has been called up from triple-A Richmond. Supposedly Peter Moylan said on 790 in Atlanta that Acosta has been called up. If this is true it could mean one of two things. Either Wickman has been placed on the DL or Tyler Yates has been optioned back to Richmond. Acosta is a 6'4" right-handed reliever and is very lanky. He throws in the 95-97 range with a decent slider, but does have control problems. He has spent this season as Richmond's closer, with a 2.26 ERA and a 56/35 K/BB in 59.2 innings over 40 appearances. Seems like a strange call-up with Ascanio, Devine, Paronto, and Ring in the minors so I'll try and confirm or debunk this rumor as soon as I can.
