In the third inning today John Smoltz struck out his fifth batter of the day, Mark Reynolds, to surpass Phil Niekro 2,912 strikeouts, which until that point was the franchise record. He fanned two more in the fourth and now sits on 2,915 Ks.
Currently the game is in the top of the fifth and the Braves lead 6-2 on the back of a couple of deep ones from Teixiera.
