The Braves cleared a roster space for Tom Glavine on Saturday by designating right-hander Lance Cormier for assignment. Cormier, who was acquired from the Diamondbacks along with Oscar Villarreal, struggled in his two seasons with the Braves but should sign on with another pitching-desparate team. After appearing primarily from the bullpen in 2006, nine of Cormier's ten appearances came as a starter in '07. A great spring was followed by a triceps injury this past year and in his time with the big club, Cormier went 2-6 with a 7.09 ERA, allowing 56 hits, 22 walks, and 16 home runs in 45.2 innings, while striking out 27. Cormier isn't really of a loss as a AAAA-type player with plenty of options now to fill in for a game or two at a time in the majors.
