Teixeira Undergoes Surgery

on .

According to Mark Bowman, Braves first baseman Mark Teixeira underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left knee. The procedure to remove a "loose body" from his knee was performed late November and he should be at full strength by mid-January, a month before the first team workouts. Teixeira first felt pain in the knee during spring training last year while still with the Rangers. He battled soreness throughout the season and chose to correct the ailment with surgery during the off-season. Braves GM Frank Wren said "It shouldn't impact him at all. That's why he chose to get it done." "Tex" will be among the most sought after free agents when he hits the open market this season, so getting this surgery to take away any discomforts before his contract year is a no-brainer. The Georgia Tech product endeared himself to fans last season, blasting 17 home runs and driving in 56 after being acquired from the Rangers. The Braves will try and re-sign him after this season, however the market price for a young, slugging, Gold Glove first baseman may be a little higher than Atlanta can afford.
