Braves Debate: Yunel Escobar

on .

This is a topic that many of our readers I know I have very strong opinions about. Yunel Escobar, our 24-year old Cuban shortstop, has been mentioned in just about every trade rumor involving the Braves. What many teams lack in infield depth, the Braves have plenty of with Brent Lillibridge, Elvis Andrus, and others in the minors. Here is the question for debate. Yunel Escobar has hit .301/.336/.408 in his 103 at bats with Atlanta this season. His .744 OPS makes him average at best offensively. He does have a very good glove at second, third, and short so it makes him worthy of a starting job. You have two options of what to do with him this season. You could either trade him in a deal for an established starter such as Jennings, Lowry, or Vazquez, or you could keep him on as a super-utility player. His lack of big-time offensive production puts him behind guys like Campbell, Andrus, Lillibridge, etc. in the Braves future plans but without him, the Braves bench becomes much weaker. What do you do with him this season or if you keep him, in the future? This is intended to start argument and debate. If you have an opinion post it and support it. If you disagree with someone, call them out on it. I want to spark some good Braves debate here.
