- Have no fear, Braves GM John Schuerholz is actively looking for pitching help. Well, most of us basically figured that already but today I guess it was confirmed. As he quite often does, Schuerholz almost toyed with the media by letting everyone know he had an index card with possible targets, but wouldn't let them see what was written on the card. Bradley says that there is a good chance a move will be made before the July 31st deadline to acquire a starter.
- The more relieving part of the article is a quote from Schuerholz saying, ìI donít have any intention of trading him (Saltalamacchia).î Bradley says that the players asked about in almost every potential deal are Jarrod Saltalamacchia and Yunel Escobar... what a shocker! Salty has star written all over him so I am glad to see he probably isn't going but I would be fine with moving Yunel. He is a solid player to have around but his offensive upside just isn't anything to write home about. I'll wait it out on Andrus.
- Julio Franco, who was recently released from the Mets after hitting a mere .200/.328/.260 in limited duty this season. Said Schuerholz of Franco, ìWe like the impact he had in our clubhouse. Thereís interest there, yes.î Could the Braves be bringing Franco in as a coach? There isn't really anything he has left to offer with the bat but Schuerholz, who has been known for bringing in beloved Braves such as Eddie Perez and Terry Pendleton onto the coaching staff, could have some interest in him coaching. I'm not sure where he would fit in there though. I'd love to see him on the bench. He is a great mentor and especially to the younger Latin players.
