reporting the move that all of us were not only expecting, but hoping for.Bill Shanks at scout.com is
As we reported first on 'The Bill Shanks Show' 105.5 the Fan in Macon and 'Buck and Kincaid' on 680 the Fan in Atlanta, the Braves will promote left-hander Jo Jo Reyes to start against the San Diego Padres on Saturday afternoon.John Smoltz will have his shoulder examined in Atlanta on Friday and will most likely go on the DL. It was expected that he'd be shut down until after the all-star break so this isn't something that just popped up. Reyes will start in his place and could force Kyle Davies out of the rotation once Smoltz comes back with a couple solid outings. Reyes, 22, continued the breakout performance he had in '06 between double-A Mississippi and triple-A Richmond. The 6'2" lefty is 10-1 with a 3.08 ERA between his two stops with 98 strikeouts in 96.1 innings. Since his promotion to Richmond he is 2-0 with a 1.57 ERA. Command has still been a problem but the Braves are hoping Reyes can keep them in games which is more than Kyle Davies has been able to do. Assuming Smoltz is put on the DL tomorrow, Reyes will probably be called up in a corresponding move. John Schuerholz made a roster move today that many of us thought was just a bit late. The Braves sent utility infielder Pete Orr to Richmond and promoted reliever Joey Devine from Mississippi. Orr was hitting .179/.207/.196 in 43 games for Atlanta. The pen, which has been drastically overworked recently will get some much needed reinforcements in Devine, who could have a bit more lengthy of a stay this time.
