Braves Lose Heartbreaker

on .

We all knew Hudson had to be on tonight in order to go head-to-head with Santana.† And boy was he.† The Hudson we saw at the beginning of the season was back in full form, pitching 7 1/3rd shutout innings.† He gave up just two hits and one walk in his phenomenal performance.† Unfortunately, Santana did just as well, going 7 innings and giving up only 5 hits and 3 walks while racking up 9 strikeouts. Thanks to Santana's pitching, the Braves offense struggled to score runs for Hudson.† The only extra base hits were a double by Diaz and a homerun by McCann.† Diaz was the only†one with a two-hit performance, while McCann, Francouer, †Jones and Renteria each had a hit a piece. Soriano pitched only 2/3rds of an inning, and hindsight makes one wonder why Wickman was brought in to replace him in the ninth.† Wickman suffered his third blown save of the year, allowing four hits and three earned runs.† The tying run scored on a throwing error by third baseman Yunel Escobar, who made a high throw trying to get the tying run out at the plate.† The real story tonight was Salty starting at first base.† He seemed to do ok defensively minus the bobble he made on a ball off the bat of Justin Morneau, which was scored a hit and made the third hit of the ninth inning.† He had a dud of a night at the plate though, going 0 for 4 with 3 strikeouts. Kelly Meter:† 0 for 5 with a strikeout, dropping his average to .283. Final Score: Braves 2, Twins 3
