Chipper Activated from DL
Update: With Renteria proving to be well enough to start, Chipper was moved to DH as Yunel Escobar was moved over to third.
Chipper Jones, after experiencing great improvement over the past couple day, was activated from the 15-day disabled list. Jones is in the starting lineup for tonight's game against the Twins. All this stemmed from a collision at third base with the Pirates' Jose Bautista. He landed hard on his thumbs and since then they have been in pain and even forced him to wear soft casts after not being able to even grip a bat. Chipper's return should signal a big improvement for the struggling Braves as they regain their top hitter. Not only that, but this puts more depth on the bench with Yunel Escobar moving to a utility role. Chipper was hitting .300 with 12 homers and a 1.017 OPS before getting injured
Blaine Boyer was optioned back to triple-A Richmond to make room for Jones. Chad Paronto probably saved himself from facing waivers by his much improved pitching and the resurgence of his sinker of late. I have said all along that I had faith in Paronto but that was before I realized that he was out of options. It is nice to see him making the adjustments and turning his season back around with the Braves. Boyer may be the better option right now but I'd rather have Paronto in the majors and Boyer for depth than only Boyer.
