Update: Chipper Jones was held out of the starting lineup against Tom Glavine and the Mets. Jones, who is still feeling pain in his fingers from the collision he had against the Pirates a while ago. Chipper was almost held out Wednesday but stayed in. Martin Prado is penciled in at third for tonight... ugh! This sounds like something that could be another nagging injury but hopefully it doesn't take too long to clear up
This is a segment that unfortunately we have had to do all too often this season with the injury bug biting the Braves hard, early in the season. After already losing two of our top relievers to the disabled list and four starters at some point during this short season, it is incredible that the Braves still sport a 27-19 record.
Lance Cormier: Cormier through his second pain-free rehab start for Mississippi and with much better results than the first start. The right-hander who went on the DL right after the season began with a triceps injury, pitched five innings of scoreless baseball for the Braves double-A affiliate. Cormier allowed four hits, no walks, and struck out four as he earned the win. Cormier will make another rehab start, this time for Richmond, and then will most likely be called up when the rotation spot Lerew recently vacated comes around again.
Mike Gonzalez: Gonzalez had his third MRI of the year on Wednesday. The Braves medical staff wanted another one done because they believed the MRI taken last Thursday on his left elbow didn't provide enough information. Gonzalez, who turned 29 on Wednesday has had a history of medical problems with the elbow, but it was pain free when he played catch recently so this looks like it's just precautionary. The plan is to activate him when he is eligible on Saturday when I would think Joey Devine or Chad Paronto will be sent down to accommodate him.
Anthony Lerew: No big news on his injury, it seems like something that will just go away with rest. His replacement has been named as Buddy Carlyle will face off against Adam Eaton and the Phillies on Saturday. It seems Lerew won't be back with Atlanta for a while though since Cormier will most likely take his spot with Kyle Davies pitching well.
