Gonzalez Out for the Year

on .

After Mike Gonzalez seemed to be close to returning, the results of his most recent MRI will set that back 12-14 months. The dominating southpaw reliever who was acquired in the Adam Laroche deal will undergo surgery on his left elbow which has been a problem for him for quite some time. Gonzalez had an MRI that showed no structural damage soon after being placed on the 15-day DL but Braves team doctors decided that he needed another MRI which showed an incomplete tear of the ulnar collateral ligament. There were a lot of people that believe Gonzalez would eventually have to have surgery and unfortunately it turned out so after his velocity dropped down to the mid-80's in the Nationals series. Joey Devine is still set to be sent down in place of Buddy Carlyle on Saturday and other than that, no moves will be made. That means Chad Paronto, who most likely will not be down to make room for Gonzalez. I believe in Paronto as a reliever but you can tell something is wrong that he should be fixing in the minors. I hope Devine gets to stay instead of Paronto but that probably won't happen. In better news, check out my pick in the MVN mock draft.
