Andruw Will Not Return in '08

on .

Mark Bowman of braves.com is reporting that GM John Schuerholz has formally announced the Braves future plans do not include former All-Star center fielder Andruw Jones. After a meeting with Jones and his agent Scott Boras, it was clear to Schuerholz that the difference between what the Braves were willing to pay to keep the gold glover and the price that Jones and Boras were seeking was too great to negotiate around. This is the end of an era for the Braves. Jones, 30, who broke into the majors as a 19-year old with Atlanta, has nine straight gold gloves and has established himself as one of the top defensive center fielders in the history of the game. I can't really say I am shocked or all that sad to hear this though. Now we look again to possible replacements and a little bit on the Boston Herald website should spark some speculation. This is a gossip column, so take it for what it is worth, but Coco Crisp has supposedly been saying he fully expects to be traded this off-season. Rookie center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury has taken Boston by storm in his short time in the majors this year, leading most to believe he has earned the starting job for next year. Crisp was quite mediocre offensively this year with a .268/.330/.382 line, while playing gold glove caliber defense in center. Maybe a change of scenery would do him well. The last time Schuerholz took an under-achieving former star off Boston's hands, it turned out rather well. What do you think is a reasonable trade offer for Crisp?
