Chop Chatter for 9/6

John Smoltz, Chuck James, and Lance Cormier are going for the Braves against the Nats starting tomorrow. Washington is running out their last two starters and their ace so it would seem like we have an advantage. Still, the Nationals are 5-0 this month and have given up only 12 runs over that span. It's a slow off-day so I'll give you some updates and a couple things to read.
  • Brian McCann suffered a left ankle contusion while running the bases yesterday and is said to be day-to-day, however McCann says he'll be fine on Thursday. Pretty well-timed off-day if you ask me.
  • Edgar Renteria took live batting practice and said he'll be good to go when he is eligible to come off the DL on Friday. Putting Renteria's bat back in the lineup should help the team, unfortunately that probably means Kelly Johnson will go back into his platoon. I must say that this is probably the first time I have ever seen a player with some of the top numbers at his position in all of baseball being platooned.
  • Prospect guru John Sickels has some thoughts about Brandon Jones up on his site, "Minor League Ball". It is a short read but well worth it.
