C.C. Sabathia and Ben Sheets -- both of whom are free agents at the end of the season -- have been mentioned in connection with the Braves' large amount of money coming off the books. The Braves got a first-hand look at Sabathia last night as the big left-hander pitched well enough to hand Atlanta rookie Charlie Morton (7 IP, 2 ER) a tough-luck loss.
Today, Bobby Cox and the Braves get to see the second of Milwaukee's two aces in a very interesting pitching matchup. Sheets is one of the game's best power pitchers with a mid-90's fastball and a hammer curve that he throws in the low-80's. Toeing the rubber for the Braves is Jorge Campillo, who is about as far from Sheets as you can get.
The Brewers are an offensive-power house but are also a young team, and Jorge Campillo's ability to change speeds seems to give him the advantage against those kinds of lineups. Let's hope we can take what is setting up to be a very impressive pitching duel.
