7/23 Game Thread: Hudson vs. Nolasco (Not Trying To Jinx or Reverse Jinx!)

on .

After a successful reverse jinx on Monday (by incorrectly predicting we'd lose), I switched tactics last night and tried to offer a neutral commentary with no ultimate prediction. Unfortunately, we lost, and I was right anyway, as "the leading home run-hitting team in the major leagues" did "make it a long evening for the Braves." So, in other words, when I predict we'll lose, I'm wrong. But when I make an attempt not to predict we'll lose, the Braves confound me anyway by losing. I'm not sure exactly what to do here, except to say that I am 100% positive that Tim Hudson and the Braves will lose tonight to Ricky Nolasco and the Marlins. Nolasco has faced us twice this year already, and we've bombed him both times, touching him up for 21 hits and 13 runs in just 10 1/3 innings. Lifetime, McCann's 7-16 against him with 2 homers, Chipper's 9-14 with 3 homers, Tex is 4-7 with a homer, and Frenchy's 5-16 with a homer. The 11 Braves who have faced him (including Hudson and Jurrjens) are batting a combined .423/.434/.910 in 78 at-bats. For his career, he's a little better, 1-3 with a 4.63 ERA in 6 starts against the Braves. Hudson has only faced the Marlins once this year, but they didn't treat him any better than the Braves treated Nolasco, as he gave up 4 runs on 6 hits in only 3 innings. In his career, though, Hudson's 6-2 with a 2.84 ERA in 12 starts against the Marlins, and the 14 Marlins who have faced him (including Rick VandenHurk, Scott Olson, Mark Hendrickson, and Nolasco) are batting a combined .233/.296/.319. Three Marlins have had real success against him: Dan Uggla's 9-27 against him, Hanley Ramirez is 8-26, and Luis Gonzalez is 7-20. The only Marlin to homer against Hudson is Mike Jacobs, who is 3-22, but two of those hits are homers. So why am I so convinced we'll lose? Simple: after reading all of that, I would expect the Braves to win, and they never win when I expect them to. With that said, I hope I'm wrong.... or do I?
