Lyle Spencer of MLB.com is reporting that the other player in the deal is right-hander Stephen Marek. Jayson Stark of ESPN.com is reporting that a trade, which would send Mark Teixeira to the Angels for first baseman Casey Kotchman and a "lesser name". Kotchman has been pulled from pre-game warmups in Boston.Update from Alex: Please use this as the game thread. Update: Seveal sources now agree that the trade is a done deal. The Braves will send Mark Teixeira to the Angels in exchange for first baseman Casey Kotchman and double-A right-hander Stephen Marek (though Keith Law seems to think he is a left-handed pitcher). In Kotchman, the Braves get a Gold Glove caliber first baseman with great contact and decent power. Marek has been converted to a reliever this year but has the stuff to succeed in the middle of the rotation. It will be interesting to see if the Braves keep him in the pen or move him back into the rotation. Update:
Angels first baseman Casey Kotchman was pulled off the field during pregame warmups this afternoon at Fenway Park. And there are strong indications he is about to be traded to the Braves for Mark Teixeira, according to a source with knowledge of those discussions. Details are still being finalized, and additional, lesser names are expected to be involved. But Kotchman for Teixeira is the core of this deal. The latest: A second source with knowledge of these discussions says the Braves will get Kotchman, plus a second lesser name, for Teixeira in a 2-for-1 deal.
