Another series loss on the road. I'd write more, but I just don't really feel up to it today. Tonight we'll face Erik Bedard, the mercurial French Canadian who cost more than Johan Santana and was supposed to be about the best lefty in the American League. Instead he's a "
100-pitch pitcher," as M's ex-manager John McLaren memorably put it, sporting a 4.14 ERA (
in a pitcher's park) on the worst team in baseball.
The M's are reeling, having sacked their GM and manager, and suffering the full effect of having assembled an overpaid team of free agents who are reaching their collective decline together. By OPS+, the M's have only three starting position players who are above average: Raul Ibanez, Ichiro Suzuki, and Adrian Beltre. Felix Hernandez is their only starting pitcher with an ERA+ over 100. They have scored an average of 3.86 runs a game, and have given up an average of 4.99 runs a game.
If we don't win, I'll be annoyed.
