BREAKING NEWS: Mike Hampton lifted early from start against Tigers
So, anyway, Mike Hampton, version 2.008: 3 1/3 innings, 2 H, 1 BB, 2 K, 1 R, 0 ER.
You know, I kept trying to convince myself not to hope that Hampton would be healthy this year, but I'm still disappointed. I guess we'll find out what's really wrong soon enough, and if he'll be able to come back and pitch more... but ugh.
Oh, and the game is tied 1-1 in the third.
(UPDATE Pete again, one inning later: "It's revealed that the injury he suffered was a mild strain of the right groin. They're listing him as day-to-day.")
I swear, you couldn't make this up. Here's Pete van Wieren, about 10 minutes ago: Uh-oh. Jim Lovell and Bobby Cox headed out to the mound. Mike Hampton may have a problem." Apparently he wasn't limping, so it wasn't a problem with his legs. Who knows anymore? I keep expecting him to strain a muscle scientists hadn't realized had existed before and get to pick the scientific name,
