McCann Earns Second Silver Slugger

on .

Braves catcher Brian McCann was awarded his second career Silver Slugger award on Thursday. The 24-year old backstop hit .301/.373/.523 this past season with 23 home runs, 87 RBI's, and five steals (no, I'm not kidding). McCann led all qualifying NL catchers in batting average, on-base percentage, and slugging percentage, tied for first in home runs, and finished second in RBI's.

While McCann won the award, Chipper was not so lucky. Despite his more than 100-point OPS advantage over David Wright, it was the Mets third baseman who took the award. Obviously the coaches and managers who vote for the award chose the playing time of Wright over the performance of Chipper.
