None of the NL East Seems to Understand: We're Not Locked in Here with You. You're Locked In Here With Us.

on .

Well, we're one week into the season, and the Braves are tied with the Florida Marlins for the best record in baseball, and they are alone with the best (er-- second-best behind the +16 Cards) run differential in the majors, +12. (The Marlins and Blue Jays are tied for +11; the Marlins have allowed the same number of runs as we have, but scored one fewer. "PLAYOFFS!" says my friend Ian Gray.) We even have the best Team Hitter VORP in the majors!

Now, the Marlins are a good team, but I don't think you'll find anyone who expects them to finish the year at the top of the standings. But the Braves are going to be in the playoff mix all year, and if anyone wants to get into first place, they're going to have to climb over the Braves first.

This is what the NL East just doesn't seem to understand.

We're not locked in here with you. You're locked in here with us.
