Padres 12, Braves 5
MVP: Brian McCann, .183 WPA. A valiant effort from B-Mac, as he went 3-for-5 while driving in four of the Braves' five runs. The big play, of course, was his three-run shot in the first inning.
LVP: Eric O'Flaherty, -.328 WPA. Bobby Cox called on EOF to stop the bleeding in the sixth after Kawakami had allowed the Friars to tie the game at three. Three hits and an error later, the Pads led 6-3.
MIP: Brian McCann's first-inning three-run homer to put the Braves up 3-0 early. For the second game in a row, we see the Braves have the MIP in spite of losing. In this case, it just goes to show you that a three-run shot in the first inning is usually a death blow.
UotG: Blame the bullpen, -.440 WPA. Not a fantastic start from Kenshin Kawakami, as he left with the game tied and just one man on base. Unfortunately, of the four relievers (O'Flaherty, Peter Moylan, Manny Acosta, and Boone Logan) who followed him, only the Aussie didn't allow a run; the 'pen combined to cough up eight tallies in total.
CATC: After Matt Diaz's one-out single in the fifth inning with the Braves leading 3-0, 88.3% WE. First-inning lead still holding strong, man on base with only one out, getting past the midpoint of the game...things were looking pretty strong for the Bravos before the bullpen imploded.
