Billy Wagner

Written by Joe Lucia on .

Say hello to my little friend... The Braves make the first big free agent splash of the winter, signing Billy Wagner to a one year deal worth $7 million, with an option on it for 2011 for $6.5 million if he finishes 50 games. This is of course assuming Wagner passes his physical. So whats this mean for the Braves? The team gets a closer who's posted an ERA above 3.00 once in his career, and has saved 30 games 7 times. He's also only finished 2 years with K rates under 10.00 per 9, and in 8 of the past 9 years, he's had a walk rate under 3.00. Wagner may not be as young as Soriano or Gonzalez, but he's a proven, kickass closer that should slide into the role perfectly and not let the team have much of a falloff from what we had last year.
