Alright, last batch of the day. Lets make this brief, because I'm tired. This is what, my 6th entry today? Yeah. Slumber is necessary.
-The Braves are interested in former Yankees outfielder Xavier Nady. Nady isn't a bad option, but I'm worried about his arm after the TJ...will he be able to make throws from the outfield, or will we have another McLouth out there? He's not a bad option with the bat, and in his last full season in 2008, he OPSed.867 with a .205 ISO. Those numbers were aided by a .337 BABIP, but Nady could still most likely put up an OPS in the .820 range with 20 homers or so if he's fully healthy. He probably won't be asking for a whole ton of money. This is an option worth exploring a little further.
-The Braves are also interested in Ross Gload, last of the Marlins, as a bench player to replace Greg Norton. Gload led the NL with 21 pinch hits last season, and had an .872 OPS in pinch hitting opportunities. If he's strictly kept in the role as a bench player and doesn't get more than 150-200 at bats, Gload could be a real asset off the bench. He'll cost more than Norton did this season, as Gload made $1.9 million last year, though he was heavily overpaid. If we can get him for $1.5 million or less, I'd say it would be a worthy acquisition for the bench.
That does it for me tonight folks. Stick a fork in me, I'm done. I'll keep an eye on news before I wake up, and before I go to class in the morning...as always, if something breaks when I'm away from a computer, check the
