Some organizational moves

Written by Joe Lucia on .

The Braves organization made a TON of moves today, lets take a look at them, one by one. Placed Kelly Johnson on the DL with tendinitis, recalled Brooks Conrad from AAA Gwinnett I think this is a Dice-K/Wang type disabling, where the real reason is "mystifying suckage". Kelly's struggles are well-known to everyone, and I certainly hope that when he goes on his rehab assignment, he finds out whats wrong with himself and turns it around. I wrote about Brooks Conrad in my Gwinnett hitters preview a couple of weeks ago...since then, he was named to the International League All-Star team. His defense is shoddy and he can't hit for average, but he's good some good power. We could use that off the bench (Anderson home run from last night aside). Promoted Jason Heyward, Freddie Freeman, and Thomas Palica to AA Mississippi. Now THIS is what I'm talking about. The end of the Kala Ka'aihue era in Mississippi is upon us, as it appears that his horrible year thusfar is finally going to be ended. I assume they're going to let him ride the bench, because Freeman is just too good to let sit on the bench. The Mississippi offense gets another shot in the arm with the addition of uber-prospect Jason Heyward. I'd assume that Willie Cabrera will be pushed to the bench with the addition of Heyward. Finally, Matt Young gets a little help. Congratulations are in order for Young, JC Boscan, and Kyle Cofield, who made the Southern League All-Star team. Jonny Venters also was voted on, but will not play due to his promotion to Gwinnett. Let me touch on Palica for a minute, since I didn't discuss him in my Myrtle Beach pitchers report: he's 22, out of Huntington Beach, California (home of Tito Ortiz!), and was having himself a pretty good year at Myrtle Beach before the callup: 3-1, 3.12, 34 Ks in 34 2/3 innings. Thats doable. Promoted Luis Sumoza and Gerry Rodriguez to Myrtle Beach Neither of these moves excite me too much. Rodriguez has decent power, but strikes out waaaaaaaaaay too much and has a fear of taking pitches. Sumoza hasn't done a thing since joining the organization last August. Considering they're going to a pitchers park, this could get ugly pretty quickly. Promoted Adam Milligan and Tyrelle Harris to Rome I haven't touched on Danville yet in my prospect reports, but Milligan is definitely an interesting guy. He was the second best hitter on the Danville squad this year, throwing up a sick line of .439/.500/.756 in 9 games (and he wasn't the best hitter on the team! More on this this weekend). He was drafted several times by the Braves before finally signing this year, and was named Appy League player of the week for the first week of the season. Good enough. Harris was drafted this year out of Tennessee, and is taking the Appy League by storm, with 9 strikeouts to ZERO walks in 5 1/3 IP. I approve. Schedule for the weekend...I don't take holidays off, even though my readers do. New HOT or NOT will be up tonight or tomorrow. I expect to get the Phillies series recap up tonight. And I'll try to get at least one Danville prospect report up this weekend. I promise.
