Derek Lowe will be looking for win number six tonight in the first of four games against the Colorado Rockies. He'll be facing Jason Marquis who is 4-3 with a 5.40 ERA. Lowe has been everything the Braves have needed him to be thus far in '09. His 5-1 record has him tied for the NL lead in wins, and a win tonight will get him halfway to the 12 wins he'll need to keep his streak going. Lowe is the only current major league pitcher with at least 12 wins in eight consecutive season ('02-'08).
Although Saturday's game was no indication that the offense has its act together, key pieces of the Braves offense are finally heating up. Garrett Anderson is in the midst of a five-game hitting streak and 8-for-20 (.400) with 5 RBIs during his streak. And in case you've missed it, Mac is definitely back! McCann has gone 11-for-28 (.393) and hit safely in seven of eight games, with a home run, two doubles, three walks and 5 RBIs.
Also, watch for Chipper to hit his 1,000th career hit at Turner Field tonight or tomorrow night. He's only three hits shy of number 1,000!
Just a head's up that the rotation has been tweaked a little following Sunday's rainout. Look for JJ to take the mound on Tuesday, Vazquez on Wednesday and Kris Medlen (taking the place of Reyes, who is moving to the bullpen), making his major league debut, on Thursday. I'm excited to see what Medlen can do. Anyone upset the Braves brought him up over Hanson?
Come out to the ballpark and see the Braves accelerate over that .500 mark! Tonight is game three in what is now a nine-game homestand.
