Keith Law was one of only two writers in the land who left Chris Carpenter off his Cy Young ballot. Law voted Tim Lincecum in first, Javy Vazquez in second, and Adam Wainwright in third. Baseball Prospectus's Will Carroll is the other web stat nerd recently given an MVP vote, and he voted for Wainwright, Lincecum and Danny Haren. Every other writer in the country had a ballot of Lincecum, Wainwright, and Carpenter in some order.

Law, therefore, gave Vazquez his fourth-place finish all by himself -- as well as the $70,000 bonus in his contract for finishing fourth. Quite frankly, I think it's very reasonable to call Vazquez the fourth-best pitcher in baseball last year. It's awfully nice that's exactly what happened!
