Rockies 4 (6-5), Braves 0 (6-50)
WP: Jimenez (3-0)
LP: Kawakami (0-2)
There isn't really a lot to say. The Braves had chances early in this one, with runners reaching in the first 5 innings, and getting into scoring position in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. And then, Ubaldo Jimenez set down the final 15 in a row to (as you may have heard) not only shut out the Braves, but no hit them as well. Yikes...Kenshin Kawakami started for the Braves, and labored early on, only getting through 5 innings while allowing 8 hits and 4 earned, along with a pair each of walks and strikeouts. But there was a positive to the evening, and that was Jonny Venters making his major league debut. Venters pitched 3 scoreless, allowing a hit, a walk, and striking out a pair to at least give the Braves a chance to win without throwing gasoline on the fire. But alas. Jesse Chavez threw an effortless 9th for the Braves as well (8 pitches with a strikeout. Wow).
I have nothing to say about the offense. At least Jimenez walked 6 guys so it totally wasn't a wasted effort. But he got locked in midway through the game, and actually hit 98 on the final pitch of the game...unbelievable. The Braves & Rockies play the final game of their series today at 1:35 as Greg Smith of the Rockies (1-1, 5.25) takes on the Braves' Jair Jurrjens (0-1, 8.64), who is looking to rebound from a terrible start against the Padres last Wednesday. Here's hoping everything is good with him.
STAR OF THE GAME: Jonny Venters. 3 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 K
GOAT OF THE GAME: Nate McLouth. 0/4, 2 K. But this honor can really be shared by most of the offense
On another note, I know I promised I'd be back to regularly blogging on Thursday...but things got in the way, and now that its all taken care of, regular updates will resume today. Sundays are busy days here at BravesHeart...I'll debut the first edition of HOT or NOT after today's game, along with the game recap and the weekly minor league report. The Braves are off tomorrow, so thats when I'll write up the series preview for the huge series against the Phillies, the Braves first interdivisional series of the season.
