Game Recap - 4/9/10

Written by Joe Lucia on .

Giants 5 (4-0), Braves 4 (2-2) WP: Affeldt (2-0) LP: Medlen (0-1) I'm not too pleased with how this ended, so this recap will be brief. The Braves dominated for 6 innings behind the arm of Tim Hudson. Hudson allowed a couple of runs in the 7th inning, and was pulled after concluding the inning...after only throwing 77 pitches and making the Giants look stupid all day. Takashi Saito pitched a scoreless 8th, and Billy Wagner blew the game in the 9th after allowing a double to Eugenio Velez, and a game tying homer by Edgar Renteria (of all guys...Edgar Renteria). 3 scoreless innings followed, and that led to the 13th...Kris Medlen walked Juan Uribe. Uribe stole second, but Aaron Roward pretty blatantly interfered with Brian McCann's throw to second...obviously, it wasn't called because major league umpires are as competent as your average janitor at McDonalds. An infield single followed, and that was ballgame. It was a completely horrible ending to a fun game. I'm so irritated that something so blatant would be missed. Its not as if the bat grazed his elbow...it pounded him in the armpit! Seriously umps? Inane. Yet another reason for replay in baseball. Offensively, this was all about the top 5 guys in the order. They did everything today. Martin Prado had a man-sized game, going 3 for 4 with 3 walks and 2 runs scored. Thats absolutely ridiculous! Melky Cabrera reached base 3 times (but still has a lower batting average than Nate McLouth, who was not in the starting lineup today), and Troy Glaus got off the schnide a little bit with a pair of hits and his first RBI has a Brave. And then there was Jason Heyward...0 for 5 with a walk...and 4 strikeouts. Thats back to back golden sombreros for Braves players! I'm purposely avoiding the lower tier of blogs and threads online because I'm really not in the mood for people calling for heads 4 games into the year. Its silly. Quick note. There was no preview for this series because there were still questions as to which Braves starters would be going tomorrow and Sunday. It will be Derek Lowe vs Todd Wellemeyer tomorrow, and Kenshin Kawakami will be led to the slaughter against Tim Lincecum on Sunday. Lovely... STAR OF THE GAME: Martin Prado. 3/4, 2 R, 3 BB GOAT OF THE GAME: Jason Heyward. 0/5, 1 BB, 4 K
