Game Recap - 8/30/10

Written by Joe Lucia on .

Braves 9 (76-55), Mets 3 (65-66) WP: Jurrjens (6-4) LP: Misch (0-4) Offense...sweet, sweet offense. The Braves jumped on Pat Misch with 2 in the first and 3 in the second, and never looked back. The top of the lineup once again powered the Braves offense...Omar Infante and Brian McCann reached 3 times, and Jason Heyward 4 times, while Martin Prado and Derrek Lee all got aboard twice. Infante and Heyward each scored 3 runs, Heyward drove in 4, and Prado drove in 3. So pretty much...top of the lineup, doing their jobs and doing them well. The entire offense worked some great counts tonight...Heyward saw 23 pitches, Prado saw 28, Alex Gonzalez saw 22, and Diory Hernandez had a great 8 pitch at bat with the game out of reach. Real impressed with the discipline from the tea tonight...only struck out 3 times, and while they only walked 4 times, I'll take 14 hits as a counterpoint. Only 7 men stranded, 4/10 with RISP...oddly, the team only had 2 extra base hits, and both were homers: one by Heyward, one by McCann. Strange to score 9 runs without a double on the night. Jair Jurrjens was flat tonight, no question about it. He couldn't finish the 6th inning. Walked 6, struck out 8...both numbers unusually high for him. A lot of deep counts for JJ tonight, and he couldn't finish a lot. To be fair, he probably shouldn't have started the 6th (doesn't that sound familiar), but he did and another 2 walks and 2 hits were tacked to his resume. Overall, just a blah performance...got the job done with the way the offense performed. Bullpen was fine...each reliever allowed a hit and got a strikeout, 2 for Kyle Farnsworth. Him, Eric O'Flaherty and Billy Wagner didn't need to work hard with the lead, and it showed...just real easy, efficient pitching. Just what the team needed. Phillies are playing in LA tonight, and are already down 1-0...Roy Halladay is on the mound, and the Dodgers have men on the corners with none out in the second. A Dodgers win would be huge, and would extend the lead in the East back up to 3 games...gotta gain some ground this week.
