Minor League Transactions - 8/17/10

Written by Joe Lucia on .

Haven't done one of these in awhile, and there was some movement in the organization... Tim Gustafson and Brandon Beachy swapped places for a day between Gwinnett and Mississippi, but are back where they were last week: Beachy in Gwinnett, and Gustafson in Mississipppi. Gustafson got a spot start for Gwinnett and pitched well, but since in the long run, he's just organizational depth, I guess the Braves didn't want to keep him up there since Beachy has a chance to be a contributor at the major league level. The big news today is something I broke on Twitter maybe 15 minutes ago, and it is a pretty big deal: JJ Hoover has been promoted from Myrtle Beach to Mississippi to join Randall Delgado, Julio Teheran, and Tyrelle Harris with the M-Braves. The rotation over in Pearl now looks like this: Teheran, Delgado, Hoover, Kyle Cofield and Jacob Thompson. That is one HELL of a top 3. With less than a month left in the season though, its really just to get Hoover acclimated to Mississippi, which is where he'll probably be opening up next year along with Delgado. As for Teheran and Harris...both have been impressive in Mississippi, and could end up starting 2011 in Gwinnett with a fast track to Atlanta on tap. Dan Nelson was also promoted to Mississippi, but this is his 4th team of the season, and he's 26...not much of a prospect there. I missed this in my injury report earlier this afternoon, but Brett DeVall was placed on the DL with left elbow inflammation...AKA, the same elbow he had surgery on last season. He'll be meeting with Dr Andrews this week...you know what that means. Depressing stuff, looks like DeVall will never be healthy for a full year. Its a shame, really. And in the final note of the day, Tyler Stovall finally made it out of the purgatory that is rookie league baseball, and was promoted to Rome. Good for Tyler, though if he keeps walking more batters than he strikes out, I don't think he'll be in line for another promotion any time soon.
