Game Recap - 6/13/10

Written by Joe Lucia on .

Braves 7 (37-27), Twins 3 (36-27) WP: Medlen (4-1) LP: Slowey (7-4) Two major stories coming out of today: Kris Medlen's dominance on the hill, and the Braves offense coming out of hibernation to absolutely explode. Lets talk about Medlen first. Aside from a huge roadblock in the 7th inning, he was great. Only 5 hitters reached base, 1 by way of walk. Medlen also struck out 5. Really great game from him aside from the 3 run Delmon Young homer. Another key stat: Medlen threw first pitch strikes to 20 of the 29 batters he faced. Gotta love it. Jonny Venters finished the game off with a scoreless 9th, dipping his ERA on the season to 0.98. I'm getting a Chris Hammond vibe from him... And now...the Atlanta Braves offense! The team started off on fire, and that was all that was needed in the end. The Braves plated 4 in the first, 1 in the second, and would add 2 more in later innings on a pair of solo homers by Troy Glaus. Glaus was the big offensive star of the day, going 4 for 5 with 3 RBI, 3 runs scored, and those aforementioned 2 homers. Martin Prado was another star on offense for the Braves, homering in the second and reaching base 4 times in his 5 plate appearances. Jason Heyward, Eric Hinske, Yunel Escobar, and Gregor Blanco each added 2 hits for the Braves. Blanco has been a nice little treat for the Braves this series, going 3/8 while getting some rare playing time. He'll probably get a couple starts in the future, when Melky Cabrera is playing in left against lefties. I really don't want to live in a world where Omar Infante is starting in the outfield, and with his leg injury, I don't think he'd get any playing time out there...but who really knows anymore? Offday tomorrow, before the slumping Tampa Bay Rays head to town. I don't care how bad they're playing right now, they horrify the hell out of me. Every team in the NL East won today, so the standings are the same as yesterday, with the Braves 1 1/2 up on the Mets and 3 1/2 up on the Phillies. BravesHeart notes...weekly prospect report will be up tonight, or possibly tomorrow depending on how late the boxes for the Gwinnett and DSL games get posted. HOT or NOT will be back after a week off tomorrow, as will the Rays series preview. Life calmed down after a hectic week, so I can get back in the grind a little bit. Hooray!
