Game Recap - 9/14/10

Written by Joe Lucia on .

Nationals 6 (61-84), Braves 0 (83-63) WP: Hernandez (10-11) LP: Jurrjens (7-6) Well then. This was a disappointment after Derek Lowe stepped up big time tonight. Jair Jurrjens came out looking to build on that performance and...laid a big fat egg. 4 runs in 5 innings on 1 walk and 3 strikeouts isn't a huge deal, but the 2 homers (one of which was a moonshot to Adam Dunn and one of which was a wall scraper by...pitcher Livan Hernandez) are. The opposing pitcher drove in 2 of the Nationals runs and had 2 of their 4 extra base hits. That is totally inexcusable. The bullpen allowed 2 runs, including one by the recently sublime Kyle Farnsworth...thankfully, none of the key relievers were wasted tonight, aside from Farnsworth and the getting overworked Eric O'Flaherty. Whatever. The Braves offense did squat tonight...but don't blame Jason Heyward. The all-world rookie reached base in all 4 of his plate appearances, boosting his OBP to .404. That's third in the league. Pretty solid. Brian McCann had 2 hits, and everyone else on the team would combine to reach base 3 times. No one could do a thing aside from Heyward and McCann. Martin Prado took some hideous hacks going 0/4. Just what the Braves need right now, a 3 hitter that can't get a hit. Its moments like this I wish Chipper was still here. Nate McLouth's hitting streak also came to a close with a 0/3 night. And yes, Bobby did pinch hit for him in the 9th inning. Tomorrow's game starts at noon, so I probably won't be watching it. Maybe I can get out of work early. Who knows? Pitching matchup is John Lannan vs Mike Minor...thrilling. Phillies are winning 2-1 in the bottom of the 7th. Giants haven't started yet. I hate scoreboard watching. But here we are...
