10 June 2006
Tim Hudson and Ken Ray combined to pitch a 4 hitter against a makeshift lineup as the Braves won for the 2nd time in June.
Hudson (6-4, 3.79) pitched 8 innings, allowing 2 runs (both in the 8th inning) on 3 hits, 4 walks and struck out 5. Hudson has only allowed 3 regular season runs against Houston in 3 career starts against them.
Ray didn't look as sharp as usual and only had his fastball working, but had a hit and a strikeout in a scoreless 9th for his 4th save.
Wilson Betemit got a start at 2nd base, spelling Marcus who had a tough game yesterday, and provided a lift to the team. He led off the game with a double, went to 3rd on a Renteria bunt, and scored on a Chipper double.
Looks like Betemit might be earning more starts in the infield. Chipper, Renteria, and Giles could use days off every now and then. Betemit made a few nice defensive plays as well.
Hudson led off the 3rd with a single. Betemit doubled again, then Renteria homered to right-center to score 3 runs and give the Braves a 4-0 lead. They didn't score any more, but held on.
Offensive contributors: Wilson Betemit was 3-4, doubled twice, and scored twice. Edgar Renteria was 1-3 with a 3 run homer, his 7th of the season. Tim Hudson was 1-3 and scored, and just missed a homer on a flyball to the warning track. Chipper and McCann had the only other hits.
HoRam against Wandy Rodriguez tomorrow as the Braves try to earn a split of the 4 game series.
